Jewelry and essential oils, can the two be anymore perfectly fitting? On one hand, essential oils provide a way to calm, uplift or provide focus. On the other hand, necklaces are a way to make a statement about your individuality. Now you can have both together and go around smelling like your favorite scent. Love honeysuckle? Place a few drops on the neckalce and boom you have springtime conveniently around your neck at all times. More of a spa lover? Capture the tranquil essence of a mountain retreat aromatherapy session with lavender oil. No matter the scent you choose, you’ll have a piece of jewelry that is intrinsically you and deliciously delightful.
With that said, here is the easy yet amazing DIY Lava Bead Aromatherapy Diffuser necklace you’ll have fun making and even more fun wearing!
DIY Lava Bead Diffuser
Gather all your materials. For this crafty DIY you’ll need the following:
+ Jewelry Clippers
+ Jewelry Pliers
+ Lava Beads
+ Jump Rings
+ Lobster Clasps
+ 2″ Headpin
+ A chain (Either you can recycle an old one, buy from a thrift store, or like us, get from Micheal’s)
+ Essential oil of choice (We used Lemon)
$20 for all the material, makes about 3 necklaces.
Each necklace is $7/each!
First, you’re going to want to measure the length of the chain and mark off where you want it to hit on your body. We wanted a shorter length (think by our collar bone) so marked off accordingly. You can choose whichever is most flattering for you!
Next, you’ll want to trim the chain where you have your marker placed. Take your clippers and fiddle it around a bit until the loops break apart and you have the length needed. Warning: Frustration may happen, deep breaths and thoughts of happiness will help here.
Once this is done, it’s time to to make space for where your head pin will go. You’ll want to lay the chain flat, and find a space in the center to place the head pin.
Next, you’ll open your first jump ring loop, use your pliers. They will be useful to close it on the chain in the next step as well. make sure to do this with two jump rings for both ends of your head pin.
Now you’re going to attach the two jump rings to your chain in the distance designated for your head pin.
Before you attach the head pin to the two jump rings, you’re going to want to bead the pin. One end of the head pin comes already looped, it’s your job to thread the beads on and then form another loop closure yourself.
Once you’ve threaded your beads on, now it’s time to form a closure loop on the end. If you use 5 beads, you’ll have just enough wire left to use your pliers to twist into a loop form,
With the room leftover, use your pliers and form a small loop. It’s fine if it closes into one of the beads!
Now go on and add that beaded head pin to your jump rings on the chain! You’re almost there, you should be proud. We were, that’s for sure.
*If you’re using an already clasped necklace chain, skip this step.*
Now that the makeshift pendant is attached to your chain, all you have to do is add the clasp closure to the ends of your chain. Pretty simple: Use your pliers to open a jump ring (see step 3) and place on the last loop on your chain. Then use your pliers again to open another jump ring, place your lobster claw on and then close it. Boom — almost done!
Lay your necklace flat on a paper towel. Take your chosen essential oils (We used Lemon 100% Pure Essential Oil on ours) and place one drop per bead. Let dry.
Now, you’ve finished, wear it!
Loop the chain around your neck and go off into the world smelling good!
There you have it : Original, unique aromatherapy jewelry that will not only be brag-worthy but smell amazing!
