Wake Up On Time
Even if you’re tempted to hit the good old snooze button, we warn against it. In fact, hitting snooze is counterintuitive. While you’re sleeping, your body goes through a cycle of heating up and cooling down. Two hours before waking up, your body begins to cool down internally, preparing you for the day. So what happens when you press snooze? You are telling your body that you’re waking up too early when it originally goes off and therefore, it messes up your body’s natural cycle. This can result in many outcomes: grogginess is one.
Go For A Walk (If You Aren’t About The Gym)
Not about the gym? That’s fine. Walking is just as effective to get your heart rate up and also, a great way to start putting some positive energy into your day. Stroll around your neighborhood or in a near by park. Exposure to nature is a great way to reconnect with a more mindful life path and is a known way to improve your mind/body connection.
Do Something Special For Yourself
While “Treat Yo’ Self” is usually applicable to overindulgence, this time we’re turning it to wellness. Take some time in the afternoon to do something you love. If you’re on break at work, don’t mindlessly rush through it, eating only. Whether it’s drinking an herbal tea or reading a chapter from a book you can’t put down, you time is the best way to breathe and reinvigorate your day.
Ignore Your Phone
When you get home from work, it’s easy to scroll through your texts or social media and see what happened during the day, but we recommend not doing this. Phones are an intrinsic part of our routine, but they can easily be molded to not be. Remember when we had house phones? Unplug and take the time you would to obsess over online shopping, social media, or your favorite online publication and strike up a conversation with a family member. Or, better yet, cook together!
