Finding the time to squeeze a workout into your busy schedule can be difficult, and the last thing you want to do is stress over what to eat afterwards to help your body recover. A post-work out meal or snack doesn’t need to be fancy and complex to do the job!
Here are five of our favorite quick and easy recovery foods:
1. Homemade Trail Mix
Trail mix is an easy snack to throw together and take on the go. We prefer to use almonds, cashews and banana chips in our mix but you call use your favorite combination of nuts and dried fruits. Just add half a handful of each ingredient into a mason jar and you’re all set!
2. Protein Shake
There are plenty of protein powders to choose from, but our go-to is vanilla plant protein! Add a scoop of powder to milk, water or juice and mix well. If you have the time, add the liquid and powder in a blender and add a banana, making the shake a thicker consistency and a bit more filling.
3. Hummus and Veggies (or Pita)
Choose your favorite hummus and grab some carrots or celery for dipping. If you’re looking to add some more carbs to your recovery, grab a whole wheat pita and spread hummus over the top.
4. Eggs and Veggies
If you’re fitting in your workouts at the beginning of the day, recover with an egg scramble with your favorite veggies (we like to use peppers and onions) and you’ll have a breakfast that’ll help rebuild energy.
5. Turkey and Cheese
If you’re looking for a quick meal after your workout go for a turkey and cheese sandwich. Add two or three slices of lean turkey and one or two slices of cheese to whole wheat bread. Not in the mood for a sandwich? Skip the bread and use a soft cheese to spread right over the turkey slices and roll them up.
