All-NATURAL INGREDIENTS + DIY MASON JAR =
It’s backyard season again. As the weather warms, the outdoor seating sets come out, and more time in the sun means more time meeting bugs.
“Mosquitoes are my friends” — said no one ever. Every summer, we all meet one common enemy: the mosquito. They bite, they buzz, and they are not kid-friendly. Yet, they exist, and they come as uninvited guests set out to crash your outdoor gathering every single time.
But, this season, you can change things. How? Simple. Just make this fun DIY Mason Jar filled with all-natural ingredients that are anti-mosquitoes. Basically, mosquitoes think about the contents of this jar the same way we think about the mosquitoes.
The ingredients are their enemy, but our friend.
Here’s what we put inside:
Lemon & Lime Slices
It’s a lesser known fact that mosquitoes hate the scent of citrus. Adding a few slices of lemon and lime is an old trick to ward away the pests.
Lemon Eucalyptus Essential Oil
Lemon Eucalyptus Oil isn’t just great as an add-in to summer DIY projects, it’s also a studied aroma that has proven to work against mosquitoes. According to one study reported on NPR; “When researchers from New Mexico State University tested a variety of commercial products for their ability to repel mosquitoes, they found that a product containing lemon eucalyptus oil was about as effective and as long lasting as products containing DEET.” So, say goodbye to artificial tricks, and hello to all-natural kicks.
To top off the whole DIY Mason Jar experience, we add a tea candle. After all, who doesn’t love a little light when the sun sets?
Here’s What You Need
+ 1 Lemon
+ 1 Lime
+ 2 Tea Candles
+ Lemon Eucalyptus Oil
+ 2 Mason Jars
Simply layer the citrus slices first.
Add water, until there is about 2 inches of space from the opening.
Drop in the essential oil.
Add the candle on top.
Light and enjoy a bug-free gathering!
