A demanding schedule doesn’t have to mean sacrificing your healthy lifestyle!
Let’s face it – some days we hardly have a minute to spare let alone time to figure out the best way to eat right on the go. Instead of falling prey to junk food to keep you going, here are some tips and tricks to help you when you’re eating on the go:
While it’s tempting to cave to the siren’s song of your favorite junk food, resisting temptation to have that donut between breakfast and lunch will ultimately help you stick to your healthy living goals. By remembering to eat breakfast and having tasty and healthy options on hand, you’ll find that you won’t want to reach for that bag of potato chips later.
One of the best ways to fight off mid-afternoon snack cravings is to make sure you have a good lunch. Picking something good for you doesn’t mean that you can’t pick something that won’t leave you feeling satisfied or sacrifice taste. When you have a busy day, it might be tempting to skip lunch and snack on something instead – but making an effort to have a good lunch is important for your healthy eating habits.
Planning and preparing your meals in advance is a great way to ensure you can avoid stopping by a convenience store or drive-thru to grab something to eat. Considering planning your lunches for a week or setting aside a couple of nights a week to make larger batches of your favorite healthy meals and portion them out in advance – then, in the morning – just grab them and go.
If that between-meal craving starts to hit or you’re craving something to help you recover after a good workout, consider whipping up a protein shake. Protein shakes and smoothies can be energizing and – when you add your favorite fruits and vegetables – extremely tasty.
When you’re on the go – whether due to a hectic schedule or a day of travel, picking the right snacks is just as important as trying to plan wholesome and filling meals. Just because you’re picking healthier snacks doesn’t mean that you have to forfeit on taste. If you’re craving something sweet, consider dried fruit like cranberries, mangos and apricots. If you’re craving something with more of a crunch, consider sweet potato crisps or nuts!
