How To Practice Gratitude Towards Your Home
(And Live More Mindfully)
Welcome to Week 2 of #GotGratitude. Last week we discussed the ways in which you can cultivate inner gratitude–aka, love for yourself. This week we are aiming to cultivate gratitude for your immediate environment: your home.
While it may seem like a strange concept to become grateful for your living quarters, we think it will lead to a more fulfilling life. For instance, how many times have you thought your home wasn’t enough by comparing to the interior design of bloggers or friends? It’s easy to get into the mindset of needing or wanting more, instead of loving what you have.
The key to today’s post is to learn to love what you have, be mindful of what you buy, and cultivate happiness with where you live.
Series 2: Gratitude For Your Environment
Take inventory of all the things you own. While you’re doing this, answer the following questions:
- Does this piece make you happy?
- Can it complement something else in your home?
- Is it just a waste of space?
- Are you only holding on to it for sentimental reasons?
Once you can identify the reasons you have what you have, it will be easier to declutter your home and rid anything that doesn’t bring you a sense of enthusiasm. Your living area should be a display of all the things you cherish, not filler items.
