Our Top Tips To Finally Get Organized In The New Year!
Is it just us or is it a constant struggle to keep things tidy? After all, cleaning day in and day out is a hassle. It’s no wonder that when people make a resolution to be more organized or clean the house more often, it falls short within a few months (or for the less hopeful, weeks). Yet, it doesn’t have to be this way. Resolutions can be kept. Your organizational skills can improve. To kick-start the New Year, we have a list of no-fail tips to keep things nice and neat, all year long. Trust us, they’re actually helpful.
1. Track What Bad Habits You Have (Then Break Them)
In order to change a behavior, you must first identify it. For example, are you someone who eats, then drops the used plate into the sink immediately after–only to let them sit there until the sink gets too crowded? If so, the first step to breaking this common habit is to simply wash as you go. It’s extremely easy to fall back into the routine of drop-and-ditch. Yet, a quick scrub will save you the huffs and puffs at a later time. Have a dish washer? Even easier. Rinse off and place inside.
2. Do A Little At A Time
Most designate cleaning to a specific day each week. It could be Sunday or Wednesday. Point is, it’s not a daily task but a weekly escapade. To help ease into a better way of living neatly, try to split tasks up throughout the week. Make Monday your vacuum/sweep day; Tuesday your laundry day, etc. In doing this, you’ll find that 30 minutes of chores scattered is far less daunting than one day filled with a few hours of them.
3. Make Everything Have A Place
You know those junk drawers, or closets that accumulate stuff over time in the home? The collective area of all things lost? Give them a home. Designate labeled cubbies for pens, pencils, or what have you. Keep a bookshelf in your living room and keep all your mementos there with your books. Add small baskets around the house for blankets or your kid’s toys. This way, when you need to put something away you’ll know exactly where they go. Easier, right?
4. Enjoy The Process Of Cleaning
Cleaning doesn’t have to be torturous. Make it a fun experience by creating a playlist dedicated to the occasion with your favorite songs or get your family/roommates involved in the process!
