Staying active in the Winter can be difficult.
When cold weather moves in, the couch sings her siren song and all we want is to cozy up with some blankets. But it’s important to stay active all year round! So we put together a list of our favorite ways to stay active through the cold weather season.
Playing In The Snow
While this is a fun family activity, we’ll admit that sometimes playing in the snow is a guilty pleasure even without the kids around. There’s something nostalgic about playing in the freshly fallen snow – making snowman, go sledding, snowshoeing, or take a nature walk.
Indoor Classes At The Gym
Use winter as an excuse to check out new fitness classes offered in your area. Whether you’ve been meaning to try kickboxing, Zumba, or a spin class – winter is the perfect time to challenge yourself. The new activity may turn into your favorite form of fitness for winter – or even year round!
Household Chores
We know that it’s called Spring Cleaning, but when the weather gets nicer – we want to be outside! Winter is the perfect time to get a jump on household cleaning and chores that you may have been putting off. In addition to your regular chores, collecting and recycling old clothing and appliances that have been taking up space in your home is a great way to stay active and also give you a great sense of accomplishment.
Volunteering
Speaking of a sense of accomplishment, volunteering during the winter is a great way to stay active and also do good for others. Spend some time helping at a soup kitchen, canvas your neighborhood for donations to a local food bank, or look into toy drives in your area and volunteer to help! Seek out volunteering opportunities through your local city or town hall, hospitals, or religious organization.
Shopping
Walking around the mall is a great way to jumpstart your day if you get there before the stores open and focus on taking a brisk walk. By the time you finish your workout, you can even do some actual shopping before the crowds arrive, or simply enjoy browsing the windows and seeing what stores you wouldn’t normally stop in have to offer!
